In Buenos Aires, a group of Russian speaking migrants who left Russia between 2022 and 2023 in opposition to the war built a public banya that now runs on a weekly rhythm of heat, cold, pause, and repetition. On women's days, the steam carries the scent of fir brought in from the Siberian taiga, rare enough for the city that one bather calls the ritual exclusive. Argentinian women have begun joining too, drawn by curiosity, some reading newspapers inside the steam room in a habit that still catches their Russian hosts off guard, and the bathhouse has become a meeting point where two different sets of cultural memory recognize each other under the same roof.
